You may not be a candidate for waxing, or a doctor's note may be required. Waxing cannot be performed with the following conditions:
- Active flare up of autoimmune disorder such as lupus rash or psoriasis
- Any active infection (Flu, MRSA, etc.)
- Any viral or bacterial skin infection (such as herpes simplex, warts, impetigo, cellulitis, yeast infection, ring worm etc.)

Other concerning factors for waxing:
- Pregnancy- You can still get waxed, but you may be more sensitive especially in the pelvic region
- Menstrual Cycle- You can still get waxed while on your period, but you may be more sensitive especially in the pelvic region. Please have a clean tampon, cup or disc in place for a bikini/brazilian wax
- Cancer- You can usually be waxed if you are in remission or not being treated with chemotherapy or radiation, and if your skin is well hydrated and in good condition. Medical approval may be needed
- Diabetes- You can still get waxed, but there is a higher risk of reactions. Healing may be slower
- High blood pressure/Heart conditions- May be more sensitive
- Thyroid disorders/medication- May be more sensitive. Skin can be more dry so be extra aware of home care routine. Discoloration after waxing can occur
- Hormone issues- May be more sensitive and dry. Waxing may not thin hair growth that is caused by uncontrolled hormone imbalance
- Autoimmune diseases- You cannot get waxed if rash, wounds or inflammation is present. Waxing may cause discoloration from skin trauma
Waxing Preparation
Prior to waxing services:
- Ensure your hair has 3-6 weeks of growth (must be about 1/4 inch long for waxing to have good results)
- Discontinue the use of chemical exfoliants such as BHAs, AHAs, glycolic or lactic acids, salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, retinols and retin-a at least ONE WEEK prior to being waxed. These products can cause the skin to become dry or thinner and increase the chance of skin peeling or "lifting" with the wax
- Avoid sun or UV exposure, spray tanning or tanning lotion before your appointment. Sunburned skin CANNOT be waxed, and waxing will remove color from your spray tan
- Exfoliating once a week, moisturizing daily, staying hydrated, and exfoliating the day before your wax will help you achieve the best results!
- Avoid chemical peels and other strong skincare treatments for one month before your appointment.
- Limit your caffeine and alcohol consumption before your waxing service- these can increase your sensitivity and your skin's reaction to being waxed
- You must be off of Accutane or any other acne medication for 12 months prior to being waxed.
